Dr.
Keefer has served in the capacity of Advisory Board Member for
BMLMHC,Inc. since its inception. He and
staff of the HVTU have partnered with BMLMHC on multiple funding
proposals and community events.
Dr. Keefer is the Principal Investigator (PI) and
Director of the NIH-funded HIV Vaccine Trials Unit at the University of
Rochester Medical Center.
In this capacity, he is the person ultimately responsible for
the preventive HIV vaccine effort in Rochester.
In addition to his PI duties in Rochester, Dr. Keefer
serves as Associate Director for Scientific Administration for the
HIV Vaccine Trials Network (HVTN), which includes membership on the network
Executive Committee and leadership of its resource committee (the
Scientific Administration Group). He also is the Chairperson
of the HVTN Phase I/II Science Committee, which drives the group’s
scientific agenda to bring new candidate vaccines into testing in
people. Finally, he
serves as an investigator on network Product Development Teams,
Vaccine Protocol Teams and other working groups that carry out the
individual studies of the network.
Dr. Keefer also has patient care and
teaching responsibilities at the University of Rochester and is
dedicated to HIV education outreach in the medically under-served
community. As
opportunities arise, he conducts public HIV prevention and HIV
vaccine informational meetings, in-service presentations, and news
interviews, and interacts with multiple local community-based
organizations.
